The William Wates Memorial Trust was very pleased to give a grant to Kids’ City. Kids City is a social enterprise that aims to improve conditions for children in Lambeth and Wandsworth through the provision of out-of-school activities.
The charity has a 12 year history and has grown by demand from a school-parent-staff initiative to an organisation that provides out-of-school activities to hundreds of children in 14 primary schools.
The project is called Fit Futures and offers eight structured sports to 6,200 primary school children in South West London. A regular weekly programme of after-school and holiday sports is delivered by professional coaches, volunteer sport leaders and Kids’ City paid staff who receive formal training in sports coaching and leadership.
Fit Futures utilises the safe, open space of school premises which is maintained by the school management and available to Kids’ City rent-free. The sporting activities are incorporated into a service of wraparound childcare, allowing parents to go out to work whilst children can enjoy sports and physical activities in the safety of their own school environment under the supervision of high trained and CRB checked staff.
