The Children’s Literacy Charity supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds (including those with special educational needs such as dyslexia) to achieve the literacy levels expected for their age.

We help children who are struggling to develop their reading and writing levels for a variety of reasons and who are up to 24 months behind age-related expectations. This means they risk getting ‘left behind’ educationally as a result and have often begun completely disengaging from mainstream education by the time they start accessing our support.

Our bespoke, one-to-one, multi-sensory phonics based interventions are delivered by highly experienced literacy tutors through our ‘Literacy Labs’ based in partner schools or in Community venues. We assess each child so we can begin to fully understand their individual literacy needs and develop our intervention around them so they can develop the literacy ‘tools’ to fill the gaps in their knowledge.

Children graduate from our intervention having achieved age-related literacy levels and developed confidence in themselves as learners. In essence, we help disadvantaged children achieve their educational- and life-potential giving them the best chance of future success.
